Where Can I Backup My Data

The only way to prepare for the unexpected is to have a good backup strategy in place. Here we explore the different types of backups you can use to ensure you don’t encounter a loss of data.

There are many ways to backup your files. Even manual copies (like copying to a USB drive) are in some way a backup, but they aren’t the best option available. You have to do it repeatedly and ensure you are managing it correctly so as not to override the wrong file, which is risky business if your company relays on this data.

The best kind of system automatically perform incremental backups, so you don’t need to think about it or remember to do anything about it once the system is set up.

External Backup Drive
You can use an external backup drive to back your data up.

One advantage of an external backup drive is that there is no monthly fee. You also have immediate access to all of your files in case your computer dies, however the amount of file history is limited by the size of the external drive.

An external backup drive is still a hard drive, subject to wear and tear. It will eventually need to be replaced, at which point you will either have to migrate your data to a new drive (if possible) or start from scratch.

Cloud Backups
Your best protection against loss of data is to have a backup of the data somewhere else, and the best place for this is the cloud.

Cloud backups are the easiest type of backup system to create and maintain. To get started you simply need to create an account, download the software, enter account information and you’re away.

After the initial setup you don’t need to do anything, the cloud software will automatically keep your information backed up (provided the software is turned on and your computer is connected to the Internet).
